Digital Property. Copyright, New Technologies, and Digital Rights Management

In the last decade copyright has been at the core of extensive debate spilling over into the legal context and expanding to the social field. The phenomenon we are facing - under both national and international systems, and in the stakeholders' behaviors - constitutes a progressive erosion of copyright's traditional borders in several aspects, such as term and object of protection, intensification of rights, increase of infringements and sanctions, and so forth.
In this context, there appears to be a shift in the balance between public interests in freely using copyrighted works within legal boundaries, and, on the other hand, private interests in the economic exploitation of copyrighted works. This change seems to be the result of copyright environment transformation generated by the development of new communications technologies.
The conference is jointly organised by ASK Research Centre and the Institute of Comparative Law of Università Bocconi.
