International Colloquium: "Arts and Social Sciences: interdisciplinary research perspectives" - Università Bocconi
The Contemporary Arts are experiencing a contradictory state of glamour. They occupy the top of the agenda for the individual vocation of a number of young people, they are emphasized in political discourse and in public policies. Nevertheless, in the everyday practices, arts are often merged with their communicational functions, their capability of producing social status and consensus, their efficacy in branding, civilising and training, and these latter dimensions are often given priority. The result is an overexposure of the arts, considered on one side as a panacea against ethical neasiness and cognitive decadence, and on the other as pleonastic exercises of idiosyncratic personalities. There is a need to re-design a lost ecology of the arts, and social sciences have a role in this perspective.
These are the reasons behind the proposal for a Colloquium organized in Milan by ASK Research Centre of Bocconi University on November 27th and 28th 2009 with a selected panel of social scientists, art historians, critics and artists who will openly share premises and conclusions of their research in the arts field.
Participation is by invitation only.
