Follow me. Susan Philipsz
Follow me. Susan Philipsz is the title of a publication dedicated to the work of the acclaimed international artists Susan Philipsz (Glasgow, 1965). The book is part of a broader research project by the ASK Centre – the Observatory for Contemporary Art, a study on the legitimization processes of artists in the contemporary art system, focusing the attention on a key study case about the interweaved relationship between artistic production, cultural heritage and history of exhibitions.
Conceived on the occasion of Philipsz’ exhibition project for Genoa – which was installed in the UNESCO World Heritage site Strade Nuove and the system of Palazzi dei Rolli , the book discussed actually the notion of context and display of contemporary art production and how it affects on the artistic creative processes in connection with issues arisen by the artist’s work, such as the role of sound in the making of sculptural installation and the reception of artworks as carrier of a collective memory driven by individual histories.
